Buying your freedom
The lord never sells a serf his freedom. But a serf who reaches Reval and is written into the town book is a free man: the town keeps its own people, and the council doesn't hand them back.
What it costs
The town clerk asks 4 riksdaler in fees (48 öre make a riksdaler). That is two or three evenings of felling and splitting for one person, less with friends.
The road
Every manor has a dirt road to one of Reval's gates. It starts at the far end of your manor's village, and signposts tell you how far it is.
| From | To Reval |
|---|---|
| Harku | 12.2 km |
| Maardu | 15.3 km |
| Saku | 22.5 km |
| Keila | 24.8 km |
| Kiiu | 37.5 km |
| Padise | 43.7 km |
| Kolga | 50.5 km |
| Palmse | 70.9 km |
The minimap and the big map (Tab) show the way, and new characters start out heading for Reval.
At the town hall
Walk in through a gate. The town hall stands on the Town Hall Square, and the clerk works inside. Click him and pay. He won't write you in while you still owe your manor for damage you did there: pay off any fines at home first (the steward keeps it from your next sale).
Afterwards
You are a free man (in Reval's book of residents). Stewards pay a free man half as much again for the same wood. Land of your own, a trade and a name come with later updates.
