Day, night, fire and cold
A game day passes every three real hours. Dusk falls from 18:00 to 21:00, full night lasts from 21:00 to 04:00, and dawn comes at 07:00. At night the world is dark except where a fire burns or someone carries a lantern.
Warmth
Warmth runs from 100 down to 0, and the status box shows it.
| Where you are | Warmth a minute |
|---|---|
| By a fire or a lit stove | +25 |
| In bed | +2 |
| Out in daylight | +4 |
| Outdoors at night | -3.5 |
| Indoors at night | {{warm:nightIndoors}} |
Below 35 you're cold: your blows are weaker and jobs take longer. Below 10 you're freezing, which is worse. Nobody dies of cold yet. If you sleep at home (log off) for ten minutes or more, you wake up warm.
Fire
- A campfire: hold firewood (two pieces), hold Z for the crafting wheel or just click open ground. It burns 6 minutes a piece of wood, up to an hour of wood at once. Click it with more firewood to feed it.
- Embers: a fire running low burns smaller and lights less. When its wood is gone it burns down to ashes, and two more pieces of firewood lay a new fire there.
- Stoves: the village barn-dwellings have stoves that the households keep lit from evening to morning. Anyone may warm themselves there. Six fieldstones build a stove of your own; feed it firewood.
- Not indoors: you can't lay a campfire indoors or on a floor.
Clothes
Clothes keep out part of the night's chill. You start in a linen shirt, woollen breeches and pastlad. A kuub (the long wool coat, 12 öre from the steward) and a woollen cap (3 öre) halve the cold outdoors. See Clothes and looks.
Beds
Lie in a bed and you warm up slowly whatever the hour, and heal four times as fast.
